Beginning as a Drapery Dry Cleaner in 1967 in Richmond, VA, The Specialty Group expanded to fabricate draperies for the trade upon its move to its current plant location in 1982. In 2004 Specialty started offering Lutron Lighting Controls and AMX automation services to support our growing motorized window treatment business. In 2008 we moved our sales, service and contract divisions to downtown Richmond where we serviced residential and commercial business focused on total light management solutions to provide correct light for any task by harvesting natural daylight and controlling electric light creating significant amounts of energy cost savings.

Today as a leader in residential and commercial electric and daylight management, solar shading solutions and automation systems, The Specialty Group offers our customers more than just window coverings and lighting controls. We differentiate ourselves by partnering with our clients to effect a change to a more responsible and sustainable way of improving the workplace and the environment while providing reasonable returns on investment from energy savings, productivity and pride in employees. We further partner with our key manufacturing suppliers such as Lutron Electronics, AMX, BTX and others with our own manufacturing of custom window treatments to provide that unique mix of products and expertise. In short we deliver visual environment solutions.

Through our innovations in marrying daylight harvesting techniques with electric light controls, we have established a unique business that harnesses the collective talent within the organization combined with those of our partner product providers and uses those resources to provide a competitive advantage for both our customers and our company and employees.
